Leaving the House

Recently, my daily ritual was rudely interrupted by a profound failure of technology.

The TV remote stopped working.

It was obvious to everyone — including the idiot box — that I needed to leave the house.

I planned a trip away. Just me, no internet, and a good book.

After two nights, I reached my limit.

The silence was deafening.

Luckily, my favourite (and only) step-daughter agreed to join me on a three-hour round road trip.

My plan was to educate her musically with the wonders of the Carpenters, a little Joe Cocker, and JPY.

Instead, I lost the music appreciation battle, and we doof doof doofed there and back at an accelerated pace.

In the end, the education was mine.

The TV is working again, and I am ignoring the faint call from the workforce, pulsing quietly in the background.

What’s on your road trip playlist?
