Off to university for a little while

I have a new work contract, a new car (thanks Toyota) and a new sleeping pattern.
My University life started with O Week (Orientation Week). I had imagined organised chaos with food trucks and a heightened level of excitement on campus.
Instead I encountered lost teenagers – everywhere…
Two months after I had settled into my new role, I caught a glimpse of The Chancellor, in his full regalia, heading towards the main hall to preside over a graduation ceremony.
I felt a surge of emotion realising that the lost people I encountered in my, and their, first week will go on a journey for many years bringing them to this proud occasion.
This is why the University exists – for the students. A nice moment.
Lessons learned early on is to call everyone Professor – almost everyone I encounter is one and if they are not, are pretty chuffed to think I think they might be a Prof.
My office overlooks a Sunken Garden which is beautiful. The Kookaburras screeching and the blinding sunlight through the stained glass windows does become a little distracting by about 2.30pm.
My energy is back and I am excited!
Let’s see if I survive Semester One…
